Residents were rescued from their smoke-filled flat during a fire last night (Friday).
Firefighters from Tadcaster, Acomb and Malton were called to the incident on Lowther Terrace, York at 9.09pm.
They found the kitchen on fire in the ground floor flat of a four-storey building.

Two teams wearing breathing apparatus entered the flat and used put out the fire with hose reel jets.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from fire exits for evacuating occupants who were given smoke hoods by the firefighters assisting them.
“The fire caused alot of smoke damage.
“The above flat on the second floor, which was unoccupied also suffered smoke damage. No persons were reported injured at this incident.”
