Updated: Firefighters battle blaze at house near York

Firefighters tackled a house fire in the York area today.

Crews from York and Acomb stations and Tadcaster were called to a home in Copmanthorpe at 10.45am.

The fire was in the garage attached to the house. Both the garage and a car sustained severe fire, heat and smoke damage.

Six firefighters wore breathing apparatus and four jets were applied to the blaze.

Thanks to their efforts, the house was saved.

Station manager Tony Walker said on Twitter: “Unfortunately the garage and part of the house has sustained damage.

“The crews worked very hard to limit that damage and managed to save the building. No injuries.”
