A fire broke out at Brew York on Walmgate last night (Monday).
Fire crews were called to the brewery at 2.11am.
The team at the brewery were alerted in the early hours. In a statement, the team said the fire was in the riverside beer garden towards the rear of the property, overlooking the river Foss.
They said: “Thankfully this was confined to the outside area and no one was on site at the time and, although it has caused some damage to the beer garden, we are working hard to keep the impact to our day to day operations to a minimum.
“At this time we’re unable to confirm how the fire started, however we can confirm the Beer Hall will be open for business as usual today.
“We would like to thank the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service for their prompt response and dealing with this issue so quickly.”
As YorkMix reported earlier, York and Acomb fire crews went to the incident.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The fire is believed to be caused by a discarded cigarette. Crews extinguished the fire using a hose reel.”
