Emergency services called to York bridge over ‘body in the water’ fears

Emergency services were called out to Clifton Bridge in York this afternoon.

Police, fire engines and ambulance crews went to the scene after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the water.

Happily, it was a false alarm.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson told YorkMix: “It was initially reported by a member of the public as a possible body in the river.

“We attended along with fire service personnel, but it turned out to be a floating piece of canvas material.”

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a report for concern near Clifton Bridge York on Monday afternoon and ambulance and fire service resources attended the scene.

“They were subsequently stood down.”
