Early morning stop in Selby leads to drugs arrest

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class-A drug in Selby.

At 5.30am this morning (Wednesday 04 January 2023) officers from the Selby response team were on mobile patrol on the town’s bypass.

A white Audi caught the attention of a mobile patrol.

The vehicle was travelling at speed, it also wasn’t displaying a registration plate to the front of the vehicle.

The officers followed the vehicle for a short time before they stopped it on Barlby road in Selby.

On speaking with the driver, the officers noticed a distinct smell of what appeared to be cannabis.

A search of the vehicle led to the officers discovering a safe. A block of white powder was inside the safe, this is suspected to be a class-A drug. It also contained two scales and in excess of 30 bags.

The driver, a 42-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class-A drug.

He currently remains in police custody and enquiries are continuing.
