The fire service has issued further updates on the Langdale Moor Fire near Whitby.
An investigation into what caused the fire is now underway.
The Chief Fire Officer, Jonathan Dyson, says it will take the team time to find the answers. There are a lot of people to talk to and a huge amount of data to go through across a large area.
He appealed to the public to give them the time they need to write the report and added:
“We remain at a major incident, although our partners via the Local Resilience Forum have stood down their response. This was a decision based on agreement with 30 agencies.”
Meanwhile, warmer temperatures and an increase in wind speed could well lead to localised flare ups but the fire service says it’s all within the contained area and they have put additional resource in key locations.
A drone has been operating over the area to monitor hot-spots and help to direct crews activity.
A spokesperson said “Please continue to avoid the area whilst we’re working”
This part of North Yorkshire is still open for business but the message is please stick to the speed limits in force on roads like the A171
The fire affected area of the moor remains closed to the public due to the ongoing firefighting and monitoring operations.
Although the national support (like London Fire crews) is leaving the incident now, local fire crews will still have a presence in the area for a while to come and road safety measures will remain in place
