A serious crash on the A64 in York brought traffic to a near-standstill this morning (Tuesday).
It was on the westbound carriageway before the A1036 Tadcaster Road turn-off.
Four cars collided. Emergency services were called to the scene.
Crash location
The crash led to one lane of the carriageway being closed, causing three miles of congestion.
The A64 lane closure meant the A19 into York also backed up with traffic, at one point stretching south past Escrick.
The collision has now been cleared and traffic on both roads is back to normal.
At 8.18am, National Highways Yorkshire posted: “One lane of two is closed on the A64 westbound in between the A19 and the A1036 near York due to a collision involving four cars.
“Emergency services are on scene and recovery has been arranged.
“There’s a 55 minute delay on approach with three miles of congestion.”
It said the incident was cleared at 10.13am.
