Malton doesn’t do Christmas by halves – as the nights draw in and fairy lights twinkle along its historic streets, the town’s trademark warmth glows brighter than ever.
This North Yorkshire gem transforms each year into a lively, generous festive haven of makers, bakers, distillers, and independent retailers.
Around every corner, visitors can find thoughtful gifts, artisan flavours, and unforgettable experiences all wrapped in unmistakable Yorkshire charm.

“Malton is a small town with a very big heart, and that’s something you particularly see in the run-up to Christmas,” commented a spokesperson for Visit Malton.
“There’s a real community feel in the town centre, and a wonderful buzz as people realise that you don’t need to go into a big city to have a fantastic festive experience, whether you are looking for unusual gifts or special touches to make hosting friends and family even more memorable.”
At the heart of Malton’s appeal are its makers. From whimsical sculptures at Christine Hughes’ Gallery to inventive upcycling at Ryedale Remakes, visitors can discover unique gifts full of character and conscience. A stroll along Malton’s Shambles reveals a mix of antiques and crafts, while the Market Place is home to Cosy Cottage, offering natural home and beauty treats perfect for fans of sustainable, handcrafted presents.
Interiors at Nine to Eleven delights with decorations, home scents, and festive finds, while Kemps General Store is a must-visit for a quintessential Malton experience. And don’t forget your furry friends – Linton Pet Shop has them covered.
For edible indulgences, Malton’s celebrated food scene truly shines. Countdown to Christmas in style with handmade advent calendars from The Patisserie, featuring Florentines, fudge, truffles, and almond clusters behind every window. Florian Poirot’s delicate macarons, warming gins at Rare Bird Distillery, and artisan cheeses from the Walled Garden Pantry are unmissable treats.
Shopping local has never been so delicious. From award-winning fruit cakes and Figgy Puddings at Malton Relish to locally sourced meats from Food 2 Remember and Derek Fox Butchers, Malton proves that minimising food miles doesn’t mean compromising on flavour.
Fresh produce from greengrocers Dales and Paley’s, seasonal ice creams from Groovy Moo; think Mince Pie or Turkish Delight and specialty Christmas coffee blends from Roost Coffee (Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh) to round off a festive feast that’s as indulgent as it is memorable.

And there’s not only Christmas shopping to enjoy in Malton this festive period.
“The number and variety of events taking place in Malton in the run-up to Christmas is absolutely amazing – our makers, bakers, singers and storytellers will be out in force to bring the seasonal spirit to life over the coming weeks,” said a spokesperson for Visit Malton.
“From large scale events and concerts to intimate workshops and masterclasses, we’ve got something to put a smile on everyone’s face!”
