Car destroyed by fire on A1(M) west of York

Fire crews were called to a car in flames on the A1(M) last night (Friday).

Firefighters from Knaresborough and Harrogate were called to the southbound carriageway between junction 46 (B1224 Wetherby / York) and junction 47 (A59 Harrogate) at 8.49pm.

They found a Vauxhall Corsa well alight on the hard shoulder.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The firere is believed to have been caused by a mechanical fault.

“Crews extinguished the fire using two hose reels. The car was destroyed by fire.”
