Firefighters were called to an issue with a York bin lorry today (Tuesday).
Smoke was seen coming from the vehicle at 8.03am.
A fire crew from York followed the lorry back to the depot at James Street so it could empty its contents.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews used a hose reel jet to dampen down the load once emptied.
“The cause of the fire was believed to had been caused by a battery.
“Advice was given to staff. Crews carried out a thermal inspection using a thermal imaging camera.”
