Annual York carol concert reveals charity total after ‘most profitable’ event yet

The very popular York’s Annual Community Carol Concert has raised thousands of pounds for charities in York.

The organising team presented cheques amounting to £8000 to three local charitable organisations: The Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York’s Christmas Cheer Fund, York Against Cancer both receiving £3500 each, whilst £1000 was donated to York Hospital Radio.

The money was raised from last year’s Community Carol Concert held at York Barbican in December.

Organising secretary, Graham Bradbury, said, “This was our most profitable carol concert since our first community carol concert back in 1958 held at the Tempest Anderson Hall.

“We are delighted that people of all ages still come along in their numbers to start their own Christmas festivities with us.”

And if you’re already thinking ahead to your festive plans, this year’s Carols At York Barbican event will take place on Sunday 13 December, with tickets on sale now.

Taking part in this year’s concert are York RI Golden Rail Band, Huntington School Big Sing Choir, Copmanthorpe Primary School Choir along with soloist Alexandra Mather.

Regular York favourite, Steve Cassidy, will accompany the ensemble with Mike Pratt conducting the community carols. Rev Andrew Foster and Adam Tomlinson will jointly host the afternoon.

This will be the 68th annual community carol concert and this year is supporting The Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York’s Christmas Cheer Fund along with Age UK York.
