A York walking tour has been named as one of the best ‘family-friendly’ things to do in the world.
After topping the list last year, the Wizard Walk of York has once again been recognised as one of the top ‘family-friendly’ things to do in the world in the TripAdvisor Best of the Best Awards 2026 – placing at number four.
The accolade puts the unique tour to find magical creatures around York above experiences like turtle snorkelling in Bali, and a ninja experience in Tokyo.
The Travellers’ Choice Awards showcase people’s favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants, things to do and more, based on the reviews left on Tripadvisor over the previous year – with ‘fewer than 1%’ achieving this milestone.
Dan Wood, aka The Wizard of York, said “We were actually awarded first place last year in the same awards, but are still absolutely spellbound with the fourth position globally.
“It’s mind-blowing to think that our small family business can reach such heights worldwide!”
It has a perfect 5.0 out of five rating from more than 990 reviews. TripAdvisor says that ‘the family-friendly adventure puts fun over fright, blending education and entertainment to uncover the city’s history through captivating stories and up-close magic tricks.’
“We put magic first in all that we do,” said Dan. “We’re all about making magical memories and bringing fun and laughter to families visiting our enchanting city.
“Visitors often describe it as the highlight of their whole visit, and we can’t ask for more than that!”
One of York’s most iconic attractions, York Minster, has also made the list for best ‘top attractions’ in the UK, at number 12, with Tripadvisor saying to ‘tour around the magnificent York Minster and admire its Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and intricate carvings.
‘Don’t miss climbing the tower for the best views, and check the activity calendar to see if there’s an upcoming organ concert or other fun events.’
York itself has also been named in the awards as one of the Top ‘Best of the Best Destinations’ in the UK, placing at number six – ahead of other cities like Bath, Oxford, and Newcastle.
