A housing estate in Norton has been affected by flooding.
Local Conservative councillor, Keane Duncan, has raised the issue on Langley Drive and Hambleton Road with North Yorkshire Council and requested urgent attention.
He says : “There is a smell of sewage and Yorkshire Water is involved. Please avoid travelling through this area if possible.”
Speaking to YorkMix Radio he gave this update.
Cllr Duncan said: “It’s a very worrying situation right now. Lots of concern from residents in and around Langley drive.
“The situation is deteriorating rapidly. We have seen very heavy rainfall today, flood water is now across the road on the footpath.
“Residents are rightly concerned about their properties.
“I’ve been in touch with authorities calling for urgent action and I’m pleased to say North Yorkshire Council is sending their gully machine as soon as possible.
“Yorkshire water is deploying a tanker to flush the sewer.
“There does appear to be a structural issue with that sewer that seems to be the root cause of the problem.
“Hopefully there can be a resolution as quickly as possible and provide reassurance to local residents who are rightly worried about the situation.”
