A new wine bar has opened in York that aims to showcase wines that ‘people haven’t really tried before’.
Brume is now trading at 46 Walmgate. A coffee shop by day that transitions to a wine bar for the evening, it’s an exciting new addition to the bustling food and drink scene on the street.
It’s owned by father-and-son duo Pablo and Lucas Torres, who have ran the family-run steakhouse El Gaucho next door since 2004.

“The opportunity came around and we thought it’d be nice to try something different,” explained co-owner Lucas Torres to YorkMix.
“We’re constantly looking for new wines,” said Lucas. “Preferably ones that people haven’t really tried before from different areas, especially around Europe.
“We’ve got a nice menu at the moment with over 25 wines, and hopefully throughout the months will start getting lots of different ones and doing lots of events like wine pairing evenings, wine tastings and getting producers in from the vineyards to come and give talks.
“That’s to come in the coming months, which is exciting.”
Another regular event that’s coming soon is a Saturday Run Club. “It’ll start and finish here, and it will include everyone of all abilities and paces,” said Lucas.
“So it should be nice and easy, and a way to just meet new people.”
The current wine menu includes whites, reds, roses, and sparkling wine from Georgia, Lebanon, Italy, Portugal, France, Spain, and the UK with glasses starting from £4.90.
There is also classic cocktails like a Negroni, Old Fashioned, Aperol Spritz, and Espresso Martini, as well as a rotating selection of independent craft beers, and spirits.

The hot drink menu includes all the coffee classics, as well as iced coffee, Matcha, hot chocolate, and refreshing cold drinks including smoothies and fresh juices.
Brume opened last week, and so far the reception has been “really good.”
“We’re just today starting to do charcuterie boards,” said Lucas, “so we’ll have a few meats and cheeses. That’ll be the main food that we’ll do in the evenings.”
There is also sweet treats to enjoy during the day with your coffee, such as croissants, cookies, and cakes.
With also owning the steakhouse El Gaucho next door, Lucas explained that he’s keen to “keep it completely separate.
“Next door we’ve got lots of South American wines, predominantly from Argentina,” he said.
“So in here I’m steering clear from South American, because you can get some really nice ones next door.”
