‘You will be sorely missed’ – North Yorkshire shop closes after 21 years

‘The High Street won’t be the same without you!’

Just one of the comments after a well-loved North Yorkshire shop closed its doors for the last time on Saturday.

Something Special on the Market Place in Kirkbymoorside, had traded for 21 years.

It “put the ‘fun’ into functional fashion”.

Owner Hilary Shields posted earlier last month: “I’m with a heavy heart as I write this post. After 21 years of trading Something Special will close its doors on the 31st January 2026.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all my loyal customers, family and friends who have supported me over the years.

“There’s been lots of love, fun, happiness and sadness at times. But sometimes things just have to come to an end.”

Customers expressed their thanks for all those years trading, and the sadness that it was going.

“I will really miss shopping at Something Special – you have always had a lovely range of clothing and gifts. I wish you all the best for your future ventures,” one wrote.

Another wrote: “Wishing you all the best for the future Hilary. Keith and I loved your shop. It was an asset to the town. Enjoy your future.”

A regular customer said she “always found something lovely in your shop and you and anyone working there were always so cheerful and helpful”.

And one poster simply said: “You will be sorely missed.”
