A major river search is underway in York today for a woman who police believe may have entered the water.
An area by the Ouse has been sealed off close to the bottom of Alma Terrace today (Wednesday) and there’s a large police presence.
A section of the bank has been cordoned off with police tape wound around the riverside trees.
Incident location
The Yorkshire and Humber police boat is on the river, apparently conducting an underwater search.
And the York Rescue Boat is also patrolling the area.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police in York are carrying out extensive searches of the River Ouse after concerns for the safety of a York woman were raised by her family earlier today.
“Enquiries have led officers to believe the woman may have entered the river.
“The searches are ongoing south of the confluence of the River Ouse and the River Foss.”

The riverside path remains open to pedestrians and cyclists.
York Rescue Boat said on Facebook: “Our team is currently on Callout 63 on the river in York to assist North Yorkshire Police. Details may follow.”
