The nation decides today. Polling stations are open and the vote in the General Election runs until 10pm tonight.
You can find your nearest polling station here.
Voters are being reminded that this the first General Election where voters will need to show photographic ID before they can receive their ballot paper following a law change in 2022.
The following forms of voter ID are accepted at polling stations:
- passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country
- photographic driver’s licence (including provisional), issued by the UK, Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an European Economic Area (EEA) state
- EEA photographic ID Card
- UK Biometric Residence Permit
- an identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (PASS card)
- Blue Badge
- concessionary travel pass funded by HM Government or local authority.
An exit poll, published shortly after 10pm on Thursday, will provide the first indication of how the election has gone on a national level.
These take place at polling stations across the country, with tens of thousands of people asked to privately fill in a replica ballot as they leave, to get an indication of how they voted.
