Work to improve access to York bridge unveiled

Cyclists and pedestrians can now enjoy a much smoother experience as they approach and leave Millennium Bridge.

The new improved access way to the foot and cycle bridge at the Butcher Terrace end has now been opened.

Gone are the speed bumps that caused cyclists’ teeth to rattle, and the approach is now much wider giving enough room for everyone.

The work by City of York Council began on 17 June and was completed within the promised five-week schedule.

One of the key reasons for the upgrade was to raise the path and install drainage so it was less prone to flooding.

In recent years the bridge has been cut off by floodwater.
