Woman dies in crash east of York after car drives in the wrong lane

A woman died in a crash on a main road east of York.

It happened on the A166 Roman Road in Stamford Bridge at about 2.30pm on Wednesday and involved a car and a van.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “A Ford Fiesta was travelling down the A166 and, for reasons that are still unknown, has gone into the opposing carriageway and collided with a white Mercedes van near the junction with Dolegate.

Crash location

The road was closed to allow emergency services to work safely.

A passenger in the Ford Fiesta, an 84-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, an 81-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances around the collision.

Police are appealling to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to please contact 101 quoting log 280 of 22 April.
