Emergency services were at an incident on Whitby New Bridge today.
The bridge on the A171 was closed for nearly three hours, from 11.37am to 2.30pm, and people were asked to avoid the area..
This afternoon North Yorkshire Police gave more details about what happened.

They described it as a concern-for-safety incident involving a man in his 30s.
“Police negotiators worked at the scene and the man was recovered to safety by firefighters.
“He was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment and support.”
