York Maze have revealed their epic 2026 design.
And it’s an a-maze-ing tribute to Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.
First announced back in May to coincide with Sir David’s birthday, the completed design can now be revealed ahead of the Maze opening to the public from this Saturday, 11 July.
Yorkshire farmer Tom Pearcy has cut over 5km of pathways into his 15-acre field of over a million maize (corn) plants.
When viewed from the air this year’s York Maze design features a giant image of David Attenborough together with an Elephant, Tiger and of course a Gorilla. At 100m in diameter it is believed to be the biggest image of David Attenborough ever created!
Covering an area the size of 8 Wembley football pitches York Maze is believed to
be the biggest maze in Europe and one of the largest in the world.
This is Farmer Tom’s 24th maze design, with previous themes including Toy Story, The Gruffalo, Lego, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and The Lion King.

“I grew up watching David Attenborough’s nature programmes, he is an icon of British broadcasting and I’m honoured to make my contribution to his 100th birthday celebrations,” said York Maze creator Tom Pearcy.
“Visitors will be able to go on their own animal adventure through the maze to find the seven animal sculptures hiding amongst the maize plants.”
Navigate the maze of pathways to find the six viewing platforms and the special photo points featuring life-size models of some of the iconic animals featured in Sir David’s nature programmes – find all the animals and you could win a prize!
As well as the giant maize maze, York Maze offers families a full day out with over 20 other maze and corn themed rides, attractions and shows.
The Sir David Attenborough 100 years on Planet Earth Maze will be open for visitors to explore from Saturday 11 July to Thursday 3 September 2026, after which the crop will be harvested.
