A man was arrested after driving the wrong way along the A19 in North Yorkshire.
Police were alerted about 5.20pm yesterday (Sunday) about a suspected stolen car near Thirsk.
They located the Vauxhall Insignia but failed to box it in and began a high-speed pursuit.

During the chase, the Vauxhall was driven “in an extremely dangerous manner” including travelling on the wrong side of the A19 between Thirsk and Northallerton.
Officers brought the car to a halt with a ‘tactical contact’ – where a police vehicle is used to shunt the moving car and bring it to a halt.
The driver then fled across a cornfield. Armed police climbed over a fence and raced across the field to detain him.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences and taken to hospital for treatment.
He has since been discharged and remains in police custody. A woman passenger was also assessed at the scene as a precaution.

A police vehicle was damaged during the tactical contact and an officer had to be treated for minor injuries. No members of the public were hurt.
The car has been confirmed to be stolen from West Yorkshire. Enquiries are continuing.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This level of driving posed a serious risk to the public.
“Our officers are highly trained to dynamically assess risk in fast-moving situations, and every decision is made with public safety as the overriding priority.
“In order to protect road users, a trained tactical pursuit and containment officer carried out tactical contact to safely bring the pursuit to an end.”
The A19 was closed for several hours while recovery work was carried out.
