Watch: Fire service called after motorhome gets stuck under York bridge

A motorhome got wedged under a York bridge today (Tuesday).

The vehicle got stuck under Skeldergate Bridge on Terry Avenue late this morning.

Both police and fire crews were called out to help.

Firefighters helped dislodge the van, said to be owned by a family of visitors from Germany.

It was stuck for about 45 minutes but has now been released, and the road is clear.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A York appliance attended a motorhome that had collided with a height restriction barrier under a bridge and became stuck.

“The crew used a triple extension ladder and lines to release the vehicle and gave advice to the owner.”

Skeldergate Bridge is marked with a sign showing its maximum height of 2.6m.
