Warning to drivers as work begins on A19 improvements

Road users are being warned of lane closures as work begins to upgrade the A19.

A series of safety improvements and carriageway upgrades are taking place on the road in North Yorkshire.

National Highways is making improvements at each of the central reservation gaps located along the A19 between Knayton and Ellerbeck.

The first phase began yesterday (Sunday, 11 August) and the work continues until November.

Here are the details.

PHASE 1 – Northern Section (approx. between Marigold Lay-By and Lay-By North of Harbrough Farm)

Lane 2 closures Northbound and Southbound – 11 August to 7 September (24hrs per day)

PHASE 2 – Southern Section (approx. between Woundales Farm and Marigold Lay-By)

Lane 2 closures Northbound and Southbound –  8 September to 5 October (24 hrs per day)

During PHASES 1 and 2 the Central Reserve Gaps within the lane closures will be closed to traffic and drivers will be directed to follow signed diversion routes to u-turn at Knayton and Osmotherly junctions.

PHASE 3 – Southern Section (approx. between Woundales Farm and Marigold Lay-By)

Lane 1 closures Northbound and Southbound –  6 October to 19 October (24 hrs per day)

PHASE 4 – Northern Section (approx. between Marigold Lay-By and Lay-By North of Harbrough Farm)

Lane 1 closures Northbound and Southbound – 20 October to 27 October (24hrs per day)

PHASE 5 – A19 Northbound Carriageway between South Kilvington and Osmotherly

Overnight full road closure with signed diversion route – 28 October (one night only).

PHASE 6 – A19 Southbound Carriageway between Osmotherly and South Kilvington

Overnight full road closure with signed diversion route – 1 November (one night only).
