Update: A1M back to normal after crash

Traffic was queuing on the A1(M) this morning (Monday, 9 February).

There was heavy congestion on the northbound carriageway.

The AA reported: “Partially blocked and queueing traffic due to crash on A1(M) Northbound from A63 Great North Road to J44 A64 (York / Tadcaster).”

Crash location

It followed earlier problems when a lorry fire led to traffic being held between junction 42 at Selby Fork and junction 41 for the M62.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said they were called to the fire at 5.43am, adding: “A crew from Tadcaster alongside appliances from West Yorkshire fire and Rescue service attended a lorry which was on fire in a layby. Crews extinguished the fire and dampened down.”

The problems have now been cleared and the motorway is running normally.
