Three North Yorkshire venues have been named as among the ‘best pubs with rooms in England’, according to The Telegraph.
They are featured in the ’50 best pubs with rooms in England’ guide.
The reviews are conducted by ‘resident destination experts or travel writers that specialise in hotels’, and they will give the hotel six scores out of 10, rating its location, style and character, service and facilities, rooms, food and drink, and value for money.
The average of these scores then determines the overall score.
And the three that make it from North Yorkshire are The Alice Hawthorn in Nun Monkton, the Abbey Inn in Byland, and The Penny Bun in Askwith, are all featured on The Telegraph’s
The Alice Hawthorn in Nun Monkton has been ‘reinvented’ with a restaurant serving ‘faultless’ food and an annexe of rustic barn-style rooms.
The eight new Garden rooms made of corrugated iron and Douglas fir ‘feel more Norway than North Yorkshire’. ‘Lunch or dinner at the Alice Hawthorn is the very ideal of gastropub fare’, according to the review, with standout dishes including their popcorn king prawns, fish stew, and warm Yorkshire parkin and fiery ginger ice cream.
Run by Yorkshire’s star chef Tommy Banks, the Abbey Inn prides itself as being a cosy country pub, with menus curated with a combination of local family farm ingredients and trusted independent suppliers.
The staff are described as ‘efficient and enthusiastic’, and the food and drink offering received a perfect 10 out of 10 score, with the Dexter beef burger being a stand-out and its ‘accompanying pork fat fries are inevitably perfect.’ Breakfast is also described as a ‘delight’.
Last but not least is The Penny Bun in Askwith, based between Ilkley and Otley and in the heart of 2,500-acre Denton Reserve. The atmosphere in the bar and restaurant is described as ‘tip-top’, with the ‘delicious’ lightly battered courgette flowers stuffed with goat’s cheese and a ‘perfectly baked’ apple crumble being a couple of highlights.
