Three industrial units to be built next to pub in York village

Three industrial units are set to be built next to a vacant pub in a village near York.

City of York Council has approved plans for a 7.5m-high building housing the units behind the empty Twine & Barrel pub in Hull Road, Dunnington.

Plans from Urban Properties Ltd stated the units would provide job opportunities for local people and boost the economy of the area.

The development is set to see a building covering an area of around 232sqm constructed to house the three units.

It will also include toilets and kitchenettes.

A total of 40 parking spaces is set to be provided, including nine disabled ones and three for electric vehicles. Access to the site will come from Hull Road.

An industrial development approved in 2017 is around 100m away from the site.

Plans stated the scale of the proposed scheme was appropriate for the location.

They stated: “Carefully thought out and designed, the building is both visually interesting, as well as making efficient use of the space available.

“The proposed development will deliver a smart modern design that minimises any impact on the surrounding properties.”

The Twine & Barrel pub next door to the site closed in 2023.

The building previously housed the Windmill & Turnpike.
