‘This means the world’: North Yorkshire restaurant awarded first Michelin star

A North Yorkshire restaurant has been newly awarded one Michelin star.

Fifty Two, a restaurant set in the grounds of the Rudding Park hotel, Harrogate, is the latest North Yorkshire venue to receive the accolade.

The 2026 restaurant selection of The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland was unveiled yesterday (Monday) during the annual Michelin Guide Ceremony, taking place at the Convention Centre in Dublin.

Fifty Two is among the 1,210 restaurants included in the 2026 selection, and one of 20 venues to receive one Michelin star.

The restaurant is located in five repurposed shipping containers in the hotel grounds, and named after the number of raised beds in the garden.

Fifty Two is described as a ‘theatrical experience’, with an open-plan kitchen to watch the chefs craft their creative surprise tasting menu.

The Michelin guide commented that chef Adam Degg “makes excellent use of preserved ingredients and each element on the plate shines through with great clarity of flavour”.

Their ‘Dessert Island Discs’ allows guests to choose a track to play while the puddings are served, and the Michelin guide said the “desserts are a highlight, such as the exquisitely executed honey custard tart crafted from their own honey”.

Adam was thrilled by the award. “Winning this honestly means the world to us,” he said.

“When we opened, the goal was to create something genuine, fun and rooted in the incredible produce we grow in our kitchen garden. I have to give huge credit to Emma and her garden team, whose work shapes every dish we serve.

“Thank you to my team – Other Adam, Jess, Callum, Finn & Robbie. This recognition is a reflection of your energy, creativity and belief in what we’re building.

“I’m also deeply grateful to the Mackaness family for trusting me with this project and giving me the freedom to create my dream restaurant.

“Most importantly, thanks to everyone who walks in, sees no menu, and says ‘go on then.’

“Last night was a highlight of my career – a personal milestone.”

On Fifty Two’s website, the immersive experience is described like ‘a dinner party with friends’, and guests don’t know what’s going to be on the menu beforehand. Aprons are even on hand if you want to get involved!

The tasting menu starts from £85 per person.
