In November North Yorkshire Police set up temporary knife amnesty bins around the county.
It was part of Operation Sceptre, a push to reduce knife crime across the country.
Now officers have revealed how many knives were dropped in at the bin at Acomb.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Today, officers collected 162 bladed articles from the knife amnesty bin in Acomb, York.
“These bins are part of a vital joint initiative between North Yorkshire Police, City of York Council, and North Yorkshire County Council.
“By providing a safe and anonymous way to dispose of knives, we are working together to reduce the risk of harm in our neighbourhoods.”
If you have a bladed article you wish to dispose of safely, you can find amnesty boxes at these York locations:
- Acomb: Morrisons Car Park, Front Street (located near the recycling centre)
- Clifton: Kingsway North
- Heworth: East Parade.
