Fireworks were set off into homes in Tang Hall, York, last night – with potentially devastating consequences.
It happened between 6.30pm and 7pm yesterday (Monday) on Carter Avenue, Fourth Avenue and Olympian Court.
At two properties fireworks were let off through letterboxes. A firework was set off through the window of the third.
This posed “a serious risk to the occupants and the property”, police said.
Sergeant Luke Hutchinson, of the York Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “These incidents are clearly disturbing, and we are doing all we can to identify the suspects involved.
“Luckily there were no injuries and no serious damage caused.
“However, this could have had devastating consequences.”
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said about the Olympian Court incident: “Crews from Acomb, York and Huntington responded to a residential fire in a flat.
“The fire was out on arrival and crews used one positive pressure ventilation fan to rid the property of any remaining smoke.”
Police are urging people to come forward as soon as possible who may have witnessed any of the incidents or have any relevant information. This includes CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage.
