Thieves throw bike into the river after stealing it in York city centre

Police are investigating after thieves stole a bicycle and then threw it into the river.

It happened on the evening of Monday 13 October.

The bike was secured to a rack in St Sampson’s Square, York, when the gang took it.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were alerted to a group of individuals that had removed a black bicycle from the cycle rack and had travelled towards Skeldergate Bridge on the bicycle.

“Upon seeing the officers, the offenders threw the bicycle into the river.”

Police are trying to trace the owner of the bike. If that’s you, contact police on 101, quoting reference 12250193872.
