The 18-year-old who died in the collision on the A64 near York is named by police

Police investigating the fatal collision on the A64 near York have named the man who died.

He is George Sawyer, aged 18, from Farnley Tyas in West Yorkshire. His family have released this photograph of him.

Mr Sawyer died after he was struck by a car as he was crossing the carriageway near Bilbrough Top, between York and Tadcaster.

A black BMW that was travelling along the eastbound carriageway was in collision with him shortly before 1.20am.

The driver of the BMW, a man in his 40s, is helping officers with their investigation.

Police are still appealing for witnesses.

Anyone who may have seen Mr Sawyer in the area or the black BMW, is asked to get in touch, along with anyone who has dashcam footage of either.
