Emergency services went to the scene.

Earlier, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The A1237 is currently blocked between the Park and Ride roundabout and the Wetherby Whaler roundabout with no pedestrian access.

“Please avoid the area.”

The AA reported: “Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash on the A1237 both ways from Great North Way to A19 Shipton Road.”

The incident caused major traffic congestion during the rush hour, not only on the ring road but also on Shipton Road and Boroughbridge Road.

Traffic has returned to normal now the road has reopened.
