Updated: Two people cut free after serious crash on main York road

Two people were cut free from their car after a serious crash in York.

Emergency services were called to Poppleton Road, near to the junction with Howe Hill Road, at 6.38pm.

Fire engines, police vehicles and a road ambulance went to the scene.

Residents told YorkMix that a Toyota had rolled over in the crash after colliding with a parked car.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Acomb and York crews mobilised to a two vehicle road traffic collision.

“One vehicle had hit a static car which was thankfully unoccupied. However, the two occupants of one car were mechanically trapped.

“Crews used cutting equipment to allow the occupants to self-extricate from the vehicle. No injuries were reported however ambulance did take the driver to hospital via road for precautionary checks.”

The vehicle has been moved, and debris cleared from the road. It has a dented roof and broken sunroof.

Poppleton Road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident. It has now reopened.
