The relocation of a safety feature at York Station so that staff can see it better has been approved.
City of York Council planning officials have approved Network Rail’s application to move the OFF indicator between platforms one and three.
The application stated a waiting room currently obscures the indicator which lets staff know when a train is ready to leave.
Council planning officers stated the proposal to move the sign was necessary and justified.
Network Rail’s plans are set to see the electronic sign moved from its current location above an entrance to the waiting room to a column on platform three.
Network Rail requires planning permission to do the works because York Station is a Grade II*-listed building.

Plans stated: “This type of indicator is used to notify platform staff that a train is ready to depart and they are an essential safety feature regulating the departure of trains.
“The current position of the OFF indicator is obscured by the existing waiting room, it is therefore proposed to relocate the indicator southwards, to a position offering better visibility for staff.”
