Rescue operation in Filey after people become trapped on rocks

The coastguard and emergency services are part of a rescue operation in Filey this afternoon (Sunday).

They were called out at 2.54pm to the incident on the coast near Filey Brigg Country Park.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Scarborough and Filey attended with police and coastguard to members of the public stuck on the rocks.”

Incident location

They said at 5pm that the incident was still ongoing.

It follows an operation yesterday afternoon by Whitby Coastguard Rescue Team to help a man who had hurt his leg in a difficult to access coastal location near Boggle Hole.

“Due to the rising tide and challenging terrain, the team accessed the area via Robin Hood’s Bay to assess the casualty and determine the safest method of extraction,” Whitby Coastguard said.

“Once on scene, it became clear the casualty was unable to walk and required urgent assistance.

“With limited time before the tide reached the casualty’s position, the team worked quickly to provide casualty care and carefully move him to a safer location away from the water.”
