Rail services had to be put on hold after a coach became wedged under a bridge in York today.
It happened shortly before 10am.
The coach attempted to go under the railway bridge on Leeman Road, close to its junction with Kingsland Terrace.
Incident location
Signs declaring ‘Low Bridge’ and a maximum height of 3.2m/10ft 9ins are displayed on both sides of the bridge.
The road was blocked for about half an hour until the coach could be moved. It’s now open again.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “It was reported at 9.55am today that a coach had become stuck under a bridge on Leeman Road, York.
“It was safely removed by letting air out of the tyres to lower the vehicle.
“This needed train services over the bridge to be paused for a few minutes.
“Network Rail carried out checks on the bridge to confirm there was no damage and normal service resumed at 10.27am.”
After every bridge strike, Network Rail staff must examine the bridge to make sure it’s safe.
