An empty York building could be set for a new lease of life as a beauty salon under new plans.
An application lodged with City of York Council is set to see a former accountants office in Front Street, Acomb, converted into a beauty therapists with two flats.
Plans from Fothersons Homes Ltd stated the salon would include a training academy where people would be able to learn about particular beauty treatments.
The building, known as Cimbria House, was previously home to the offices of the Sunley & Co accountancy firm before being put up for sale.
It lies within the Acomb Conservation Area.
The offices would be converted to house rooms were nail, wax and facial treatments would be provided.
Training spaces at the back of the building would be used on an ad hoc basis.
Five full time and four part time jobs would be created as part of the development.
The salon would open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday, with the exception of Fridays when it would close at 8.30pm.
It would be served by five parking spaces, with one bay also provided for each of the flats.
One flat would go on the ground and the other would be upstairs if plans are approved.
Plans stated alterations to the outside of the building would be minimal and sensitive so the building’s contribution to the village feel of Front Street is not compromised.
The application stated: “The building is prominent in the street scene, due to its orientation to the road and the open aspect to the east.
“The sub division of the building has been carefully considered so that the amenities of future occupiers are secure and that the building is retained, with minimal alteration to its appearance.
“Its continued contribution to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area is therefore secured.”
