All rail lines have opened again after an incident this morning between Selby and Hull stations.
British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Howden railway station at 6.32am to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
There was disruption to services until late morning with trains cancelled or diverted.
