Police, fire and ambulance crews called to river incident in York

Emergency services were called out to a river incident in York tonight (Wednesday).

Three police vans, two fire engines and an ambulance were called to the River Foss, next to Huntington Road, close to its junction with Highthorn Road around 7pm.

Neighbours saw police officers racing across the footbridge into the fields on the other side of the river.

A fire officer told YorkMix they were responding to reports of a young female in the water.

Police had rescued her from the Foss before fire crews arrived, and she was OK, he said.

One neighbour said that the person may have fallen into the water from one of the gardens which backs on to the Foss.
