Police condemn ‘unacceptable behaviour’ by gang of children at York shopping centre

Children have been causing trouble at a York shopping centre.

Police have received recent reports about a group of around 8–10 young children hanging around at the Vangarde shops near Monks Cross.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The group were seen causing a general nuisance to local businesses and members of the public.

“Officers attended the area and dealt with those involved – some were taken home to their parents, while others were dispersed from the area using police dispersal powers.

“This type of behaviour is unacceptable and has a negative impact on our community.

“We are asking parents and guardians to please take the time to know where your children are, who they are with, and what they are doing, particularly during evenings and weekends.”

Police will continue to patrol the shopping centre and “take appropriate action to prevent further issues”.

You can report anti-social behaviour to the police via 101 or online.
