Police called after fires started in park and on footpath in York

Firefighters were called to two fires started deliberately in York overnight.

They were called to a reports of youths setting a fire in Hull Road Park off Flaxman Avenue, at 5.57pm last night (Sunday).

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “After a through search of the area no fire was found.

“It is believed it was put out by a member of the public prior to fire service arrival.  Police were informed.”

Then, at 6.46pm, York firefighters went to a report of youths starting a fire in the middle of a footpath off Tuke Avenue.

The spokesperson said: “The fire consisted of kindling, paper and aerosol cans.

“The fire was extinguished by a neighbour using a garden hose prior to fire service arrival. Police were informed.”

A few minutes later, at 6.55pm, the Acomb crew went to a report of a fire in the open off  Lincoln Street.

They found a small unattended camp fire which they put out with knapsack sprayer and bucket of water.
