Pix and video: York Dragon Boat 2024 – All the winners

It wasn’t the sunniest York Dragon Boat challenge – but it was one of the fastest!

Thirty-six teams converged on the River Ouse to battle with their paddles, many in colourful and outrageous fancy dress.

Crowds lined the banks between Scarborough Bridge and Lendal Bridge to cheer on the teams as they raced for glory – and good causes.

Organised by York Rotary, this was the 22nd running of the race. In that time, the event has raised more than £1.5m for charity.

This year, more than £85,000 has been raised, with more to come. Two-thirds of the money goes to the teams’ own chosen charities, with the remainder going to York Rotary’s chosen charity York Samaritans and the club’s own charity fund.

The final was very close, with six teams speeding down the water in a bid to take the coveted trophy.

And the top three were:

  1. The Growlers (Ged Bell Butchers)
  2. YO1 Radio
  3. Good to Talk – North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

The other finalists were Roar For Door 84, Stone Age (Mattias Garn Master Mason and Partner) and Portakabin Paddlers.

Bubbly for the winners

Ged Bell Butchers have competed in every one of the 22 years.

Other awards included:

  • The Best Dressed Team – The Kyra Crew with Cats of York
  • The Tailenders’ Trophy for slowest team – Recovery Knights
  • The Fastest Charity Team – Door 84.

Congratulations to all – and see you all next year!
