Elements of the North Yorkshire Council officers report, suggesting changes in car parking fees, has been withdrawn.
Introducing evening and weekend parking charges will not now be considered on the instruction of the council leader, Carl Les.
What will be discussed on Friday is a 10% increase in fees across the board from April.
Independent Cllr Andrew Williams, who represents the Ripon Minster and Moorside Division, said the idea was foolish, ill thought out and half baked. He was backed by Lilla Bathurst, Manager of Ripon BID too.
She told YorkMix Radio: “North Yorkshire Council’s proposed introduction of evening charges are fundamentally incompatible with the needs of our market towns.
This evening (Tue 24 Feb), Cllr Williams said he was delighted that the representations that have been made were not only listened to but swiftly acted upon.
“This will bring welcome reassurance to many traders across North Yorkshire given the serious implications some of the officers’ proposals would have had on local businesses.
“This is a victory for common sense.”
