North Yorkshire rail operators warn of fake social media accounts set up to steal your details

Northern and LNER, which operates trains through North Yorkshire, have both issued a warning about fake social media accounts designed to steal your personal information.

The fakes often message passengers during times of disruption saying they will sort out travel issues, requesting sensitive information claiming they can sort out refunds.

Northern, which runs local services, said on its X (Twitter) account, @northernassist :

“We are seeing a number of fake accounts being created and asking for personal details such as telephone numbers, and invatations to WhatsApp or to download apps.

“We are the only Northern account for Northern Trains across the North of England.

“Our contact details can be found here.

“We are reporting these fake accounts once found. But ask that if you do see any you either report them or let us know.

“Remember, do not share personal information with anyone who you are unsure with! For more cyber security tips visit this website.”
