A North Yorkshire MP has pledged to continue working despite undergoing a major surgery.
Alison Hume, the Scarborough and Whitby MP, has said she will keep working despite an upcoming hip replacement operation.
The Labour politician, who was first elected in 2024, said she would be holding online surgeries instead of in person meetings with constituents for a while.
Ms Hume said: “Over the coming weeks, you’ll be seeing less of me in Westminster, asking questions and making speeches.
“Not because I don’t love getting to my feet to represent Scarborough and Whitby and the villages, but because I will literally be off my feet.
“I will be having a hip replacement this week, which might limit my ability to get around for a while, but it won’t stop me from working hard for you, as I always do.”
The MP for Scarborough and Whitby said constituents can still contact her and her office in the meantime.

She said: “I’ll be offering advice surgeries online instead of in person, and my team will be working hard as usual to support constituents.
“As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can help you.”
The NHS website states that “a hip replacement can last for at least 15 years and can significantly improve daily life for people with hip pain and stiffness.”
