North Yorkshire indoor adventure park to reopen with bowling, climbing and padel courts

A massive indoor adventure centre in North Yorkshire is set to bounce back to life this summer, featuring an array of new attractions for families.

The Summit Indoor Adventure Centre in Selby will officially reopen its doors after a new operator was secured to transform the vacant venue.

The extensive complex, which sits right next to the Selby Leisure and Wellbeing Hub on Scott Road, originally opened in May 2016.

However, it was forced to close down during the Covid-19 pandemic due to strict lockdown restrictions.

For a period, the site took on a completely different role, serving the community as a vital mass vaccination hub where up to 5,000 people a week received their jabs.

North Yorkshire Council, which inherited the building following local government reorganisation in March 2023, has signed a brand-new lease with Curly Pepper Trading Ltd.

The company operates seven indoor adventure parks across the UK, including sites in Bristol, Hemel Hempstead, and Eastbourne.

Key features of the Selby multi-activity hub will include:

  • A giant new children’s soft play area
  • An indoor climbing wall
  • Ten-pin bowling lanes
  • Two indoor padel courts, launched under the brand ‘Vogue Padel’.

Vogue Padel says it will work closely with schools and community groups to encourage young people to get into the sport.

Liam Caffrey, compliance and technical director of Curly Pepper Trading Ltd, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing The Summit back to life. We’re delighted to be investing in the site and giving many of its existing attractions a new lease of life.

“The return of the bowling lanes, climbing walls and soft play is just the start, and we’re equally excited to introduce Vogue Padel as part of the next phase.

“We can’t wait to become part of the Selby community.”

Councillors have also welcomed the deal, saying the opening will drive footfall, create jobs, and boost the local high street economy.

Cllr Steve Shaw-Wright, representing the Selby West division, said: “This is positive news for residents and visitors to the town. I’m pleased to see the site being brought back into use and hope families enjoy the new leisure facility when it opens in time for the summer holidays.”

Work is already underway to renovate the building, with the operators racing against the clock to throw open the doors in time for the school summer holidays.
