One of the two men arrested remains in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. His condition is described as stable.
The second man has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
Now detectives are appealing for key witnesses to come forward.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses and information to support our investigation.

“In particular, we would like to speak to the driver and passengers of a dark Toyota Corolla taxi which picked up a fare directly outside Pizza Hut on Pavement in York at around 12.40am on Sunday 16 November.
“We would like to stress that these individuals are being treated as witnesses, not suspects.
“If you believe you were one of the occupants of this taxi, were in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious or have doorbell or dash-cam footage that may have captured relevant activity, please contact North Yorkshire Police.”
