Hate crime investigation launched after Goth attacked

Police are investigating a suspected hate-related attack on a man in the Selby district.

It happened on Doncaster Road, Brayton at around 8.30pm on Sunday 16 June.

The victim, a man in his 50s, believes he was targeted because he is a Goth.

He said a group of eight white males aged in their late teens were involved in the assault.

Two girls, aged around 14 or 15, were also with the group at the time.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident and to anyone with private CCTV or doorbell footage that may have captured the incident or the lead up to it, to get in touch.

“As well as identifying and locating the suspects, we also need to speak to the two teenage girls who were present. They are urged to come forward to help the investigation.”

No arrests have yet been made. The victim was not admitted to hospital.
