A York man has appeared in court charged with the non-fatal suffocation of a woman by forcing her head underwater.
Jake Joe Bamber, 35, is accused of intentionally suffocating a named woman in her 20s by repeatedly holding her head under water, affecting her ability to breathe, in the Clifton area of York.
He appeared at Leeds Crown Court today (Wednesday) when he denied the allegation and pleaded not guilty to a further charge of assaulting the woman, causing actual bodily harm.
The alleged suffocation is said to have occurred in York between 25 June and 30 September last year.
The alleged ABH is said to have occurred in York on 25 November, 2025.
Judge Guy Kearl KC, the Recorder of Leeds, adjourned the case for a further hearing in April.
Mr Bamber, of Apollo Street, off Heslington Road, was remanded in custody until then.
